Meatballs are always a crowd pleaser. These healthy turkey ones happily wallow in a pan of homemade tomato sauce.

Ingredients:

The meatballs:
  • 1 lb. extra-lean ground turkey
  • ½ medium onion, grated
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup minced flat-leaf parsley
  • ¼ cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp ground oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground pepper
The sauce:
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground oregano
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground pepper
  • 1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (14 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup minced flat-leaf parsley
  • 4 basil leaves, thinly sliced
